Leg Varicose Veins

COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT FOR VARICOSE VEINS

Varicose veins are more than a visible concern. They can be associated with aching, heaviness, swelling, skin changes and increased pressure within the veins of the legs.

At Laurel Clinical, we look beyond the veins you can see. Your assessment is designed to identify the underlying venous pattern, determine whether reflux is present and guide treatment to the veins that are actually contributing to the problem.

THE UNDERLYING CAUSE

What causes leg varicose veins?

Healthy leg leg veins contain valves that help direct blood back towards the heart.

When these valves do not function efficiently, blood can flow backwards – known as venous reflux.

This can increase pressure within the vein, causing it to enlarge and become more visible leading to chronic venous insufficiency.

Valve dysfunction

Vein Valves are no longer closing efficiently

Reflux & Backflow

Blood travels in the wrong direction and increases venous pressure

Vein Enlargement

Higher pressure causes superficial veins to stretch and become more prominent

Symptoms & Skin Changes

Ongoing venous pressure may contribute to heaviness, aching, swelling or changes in the surrounding skin
